Main Dish (First Course Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 379 ratings

Six months have passed since Carrie Maynard walked into D&B’s Steakhouse and collided with its owner, Devon Brine. Life has been a mixture of sweet, savory, and sour. While both women deal with the realities of owning a business, Carrie finds herself playing the role of parent to her four-year-old goddaughter, CJ.

Carrie’s life is turned upside down by the irresponsible behavior of her best friend and business partner, Dar. She’s forced to navigate uncomfortable territory when Dar’s ex-husband confides in her that he is seeking sole custody of CJ. And, that is only the beginning of stressful news in Carrie’s life.

With no love loss for Dar, Devon does her best to support Carrie through one crisis after another. Worried for Carrie’s well-being, Devon is also struggling to communicate her hopes for a permanent future together. The chaos in Carrie’s life, a job offer for Devon, and old insecurities prevent Carrie from sharing her greatest fears and dreams with Devon as well.

The unsolicited advice of friends, a healthy dose of motherly wisdom, a few slices of pizza, and a good deal of love are exactly what is needed for Carrie and Devon to pass the first course of their relationship. The question is: can they serve up the MAIN DISH.

J.A. Armstrong is a pen name for best-selling Lesbian Fiction author, Nancy Ann Healy. From a young age Nancy told tall tales and created make-believe worlds full of adventure and romance. The difference between J.A.'s tales and those that Nancy spent most of her young life reading, was that Nancy never had much interest in those gleaming knights in shining armor that her friends seemed to dream about. She always wondered why the princess required a prince. What if the princess fell in love with one of her ladies in waiting? What if the princess was the hero; rescuing a damsel in distress and sweeping her off of her feet? Those stories were nowhere to be found, so she created them in her imagination, and played them like episodes of a television show secretly in her mind. In one tale she would be the hero, sweeping in to save the day and capture the heart of her true love. In another, she would be patiently waiting until a beautiful woman appeared and carried her away into a new and exciting world. Sometimes she was a famous artist, other times a lonely princess, once in a while she was a pirate or even a space traveler. Every so often she was a simple farm girl, a doctor, the president, or even a rock-star. No matter what Nancy became in her fantasies, the outcome was always the same; she found her one true love. And that is where all of these stories were born. So, travel along and fall in love with J.A. Armstrong's characters and adventures!

Can never get enough of this author's books.Love the themes written into this new series. It's a tribute to the legacy of love, affection, laughter and struggles of those portrayed by the Star Wars movies, and to our sister of the heart Carrie Fisher. Can't wait for the next one!!!

I am enjoying this heartfelt adventure of Carrie and Devon as they continue their life together with the up and downs that goes with it.

Main Dish continues the story of Carrie and Devon who we met 6 months before in First Course. If in First Course we get just a taste for the characters and their stories, in Main Course the buffet begins. It's an emotional journey that isn't for the feint of heart. As the relationship between Carrie and Devon heats up so do the external pressures. For Carrie, time is running out on her dreams of parenthood as she's taking on the role of part time mother for her absentee best friend. CJ, a tiny Padawan negotiator-in-training needs her. At the same time amazing opportunities are knocking for Devon. Opportunities that could take her away from Carrie to New York. The First Course was appetizing enough to get them to the Main Dish, but will the Main Dish be palatable enough to move them on to sweeter things?

Main Dish progresses the love between Devon and Carrie. They find strength in each other. I love this series and hope it doesn't end soon. I have read it many times and will continue to come back. JA Armstrong is extremely talented.

Wow this book was direct and to the point, non-stop, and Darlene is quickly becoming the darkest? Or at least the most complex character in any of J.A's series. Very happy for the main characters, and nice to see so much care around CJ.

Can't wait for the next book in this series, yet we all seem to say that about each of this author's series!

The second book in JA Armstrong's newest series does not disappoint for one second! It is well written, filled with multiple, overlapping story lines going on that keep you turning each page wondering what the heck is next. These store lines seem to continue you on into the next book at least. It is both interesting, thought provoking, very entertaining and heart warming as well as very real. What a treat!

Dev and Carrie met in First Course and we meet the rest of the people in their lives. The Main Dish is more exciting as their love grows stronger and their lives become more complicated. Can't wait to see what happens in Sweet Things.

JA Armstrong ‘s characters are funny, romantic, quirky and always excellent! I always look forward to the next installments to find out what everyone is up to. I highly recommend this book! And the book takes place in the state I live in. How cool is that!

This book follows on from First Course and allows us to see the developing relationship between Carrie and Devon. The book follows all the ups and downs of everyday life and some very worrying problems with a business associate, but they both get through it all once they communicate better with each other. A great story and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Tolle Fortsetzung. Habe das Buch in einem Rutsch durchgelesen. Die kleine Padawan hat zum Glück eine tolle Patentante, die nun auch ihr Glück gefunden hat.

It's like your own mini soap opera. I like the authors writing style and her sense of humour is outstanding. I can't recommend her books enough. Never are two the same. All dealing with different issues and dealing with them well. In this book she made me laugh, cry and the need to hit something. All her characters are realistic. They could be you or I. Excellent book can't wait for number three. Enjoy!
